Dianetics comes from the Greek words dia meaning through, and nous meaning soul. Therefore Dianetics means 'through the mind', or 'what the mind is doing to the body'.
Inquiries and letters poured in from all over the country after L.Ron Hubbard published his first paper on the human mind which was circulated to a few friends who then copied it and passed it on to many more until it literally circled the globe. This paper became wildly popular and is now called "The Original Thesis".
After this came "The Evolution Of A Science" which explained his experiments and how Ron came to make the discoveries that he had made. Then in 1950 he wrote "Dianetics, The Modern Science Of Mental Health" to answer questions that had come up by reading the previous 2 books. In "Dianetics, The Modern Science Of Mental Health" (DMSMH), which is more popularly referred to as "Book One", Ron fully explored the subject of the human mind and answered questions such as:
What is the Dynamic Principle of Existence that drives ALL life forms?
What are the Four Dynamics (later expanded to 8 upon further research) by which life is compartmented and which determine one's survival?
What is the Anatomy of the human mind?
What is the source of all of man's abnormal and irrational behavior and what is it composed of?
What is hypnosis and why is it dangerous and not the best mental therapy available?
What are the Laws of the Dianetics Therapy (called auditing")?
What is the optimum mental state for a human being and what is our potential?
