The ancient Greek father of medicine Hippocrates stated, "Let food be your medicine."
Yet today so few of us pay attention to our food as a means of proper nutrition and achieving optimum physical health and vitality.
We only look at diet when we are trying to lose weight or when the swimsuit season arrives. Even our doctors are very poorly educated about nutrition in medical schools if at all.
So what is the proper diet for a human being?
Why is it that if you release any animal in the wild, they will instinctively find and eat the food that is most nutritious for their body, yet us humans on the other hand will stuff ourselves all day long with potato chips, soda, candy, and fast food?
Did you know that humans are the only animals on this planet who choose their food based on taste and pleasure factors instead of nutrition?
ok, so what should we eat? Are we primarily vegetarians or carnivores or grainivores (grain eaters...I just made that up :-)? Carbs or proteins? Cooked or uncooked? Fast food or slow food?
Although there is much debate among "experts" regarding the questions above, there is no doubt that there is a direct correlation between what we consume and our health.
In my opinion, what we consume in the form of food, drinks, vitamins, drugs (legal or illegal), is the single biggest determinant of our health aside from our mind. Since we are spiritual/mental/physical beings, there is always a mental/spiritual component that is affecting our health in which case we can address it with EFT, Dianetics, or Scientology (please see 'Disclaimer'). Some times we become addicted to the sugar rush, or the caffeine, or the opiates in dairy, carbs, and meant, and we use them as a means to regulate our mood. EFT can be very effective in breaking those habits and addictions.
Aside from that, our diet is the biggest factor that determines how healthy we are. So I would strongly recommend that you start responsibility for your own health and start learning about it.
One of the first books that I recommend you read is called Fit for Life
and it will educate you on the science of Natural Hygiene and food combining. A couple of years ago I was weighing in at 186 lbs. at 5'9" so you could say that I was a bit over weight. Nothing too terribly bad but still not my ideal weight either. By properly combining my food and following a few less-known common sense rules, I dropped about 30 lbs in a one year period without much exercise or doing anything crazy. You might think that is too long of a period but this is not a "get skinny quick" kinda program. It is a healthy way of eating. As I mentioned in the weightloss section of my website, one of the "side effects" of this diet was that my heart burn and acid reflux just disappeared after a couple of days. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to the rush of a strong acidic liquid shooting up your throat and into your mouth and even after suppressing it, leaving your mouth with a nasty taste and a burning throat. Now imagine that disappearing magically without any harmful drugs or visits to the doctor. Well that's exactly what happened. This book has many insights into proper nutrition.
After this book if you're ready to take your health to the next level, then I would recommend that you look into going raw. I know a certain wheel-chair bound gentleman who used to be on the raw food diet a few years back and went to a university hospital for a check up, and the doctor who happened to be a health nut was totally amazed at the state of his health and begged him to reveal what he was doing to be this healthy.
What you eat is not a matter of right or wrong. There are hundreds of diets out there and many more coming out every year. It's rather a matter of cause and effect. You cannot live on a McDonalds's diet (please watch the movie Super Size Me) and expect to be super healthy.
From what I've studied, a raw food diet is best for mind and body.
Here is a tip: you definitely want to implement some kind of green drink in your daily diet, specially in the mornings. Victoria Boutenko says that a green smoothie was the missing link in her raw food diet. You can do this by making a smoothie with some fruits and greens such as kale, collard greens, spinach, celery, wheat grass, or many others, or you can use a green powder, which has the disadvantage of not being fresh, but has the advantage of having a very wide variety of ingredients. The taste varies widely here so I have reviewed several different brands of green powdered super foods, and written those up for you since they are pretty expensive, but I also encourage you to test your own. Many brands also offer a small sample pack so you're not committed to a large container.
Go to my Fav. Books and click on the link for 'Nutrition' and you'll see my recommended reading list on diet.

Happy eating.
