Hypnosis (from the Greek hypnos, "sleep") is "a trance-like state that resembles sleep but is induced by a person whose suggestions are readily accepted by the subject."[1]
One of the so called "therapy" methods that has become more and more popular over the last few years is hypnosis.
In the old days hypnosis was done more for show. It was a cool party trick to put someone "under" and take them to distant places in the past or make them divulge in their inner most secrets, or to install a command in their subconscious mind and then wake them up and using a trigger make them bark like a dog or act like a fly or some other goofy act for entertainment purposes.
In more recent years however hypnosis has been used more and more combat problems such as obesity or cigarette addiction. We have come to understand that if we are trying over and over to lose weight and each time the weight we have lost comes back and our success slips away, then there must be a mental/subconscious connection there that we are not aware of. And this is very true. It is much like have a weight thermostate, as if you had been programmed to stay within a certain weight range. If you go above or below this range, mechanisms beyond your control kick in and pretty much involuntarily make you eat more, exercise less or quit going to the gym altogether, and to continue or restart doing the unhealthy habits that you had tried so hard to kick.
It is as if you have been programmed already.
It is as if you had been hypnotised.
And when we study Dianetics we realize that this is indeed the case. The average person, I estimate, may have thousands of such commands in their unconscious/subconscious mind, controlling much of their behavior without their conscious knowledge. Now let's say there is a belief or command in your subconscious mind telling you that you must weigh above 220 lbs. otherwise you'll be in danger. Now you go and get some hypnosis and the person installs this command that you must lose weight or weigh at 180 lbs. or some other desired number below 220 lbs. Now we have a command/counter command in the subconscious mind, and this can lead to a lot of anxiety. When you go below 220 lbs the nervous feelings come up that compel you to eat but now there is command that says you're not hungry and you don't crave the normal fattening foods that used to crave to gain weight, so the feeling of "being in danger" persists.
Wouldn't it make sense to go in and take out the original command that keeps your weight at 220 lbs. and then easily lose the weight instead of creating a command/counter command or force/counter force situation in your subconscious mind?
Therefore I do not recommend that you resort to hypnosis to solve any of your unconscious problems.
The solution is to get "unhypnotized" instead of hypnotized.
Of course the most effective and currently available way of doing that is Dianetics and Scientology with the use of E-meter. That is the most effective way of finding areas of charge in your subscious mind. Without the e-meter it's mostly a guessing game, which is one reason other people have not been able to solve the riddle of the human mind..
If you're trying to lose weight or combat an addiction or a specific issue, then EFT can also provide some definite benefits in that area as well but for the most part I would advise you to stay away from hypnosis and practices like Past Life Regression "therapy".
Now the folks who practice PLRT have got the right idea, that the majority of the issues that we are facing in our current lifetime stem and have their roots in a previous life whether you believe in past lives or not. But since they don't have the
E-meter nor the proper techniques of resolving the problem once they get you there, it can actually create negative effects on your mind by restimulating the junk that is in there without fully resolving the issue.
